How To Look Good In EVERY Photos!

How To Look Good In Every Photos

Hello!

Let me introduce myself, my name is Vincenzo, I am a wedding and event photographer based in Italy. I work mainly in Sorrento, Amalfi Coast and Tuscany.

I have always been very attentive to what customers' needs are, but this year is different, I can say that I have tried 100% what future spouses feel, obviously I think you have already imagined why. I will get married soon! :)

In this and in the articles that follow, I will try to address the many aspects concerning the style as a whole and the choice of the photographer and some suppliers that have a strong impact on the images.

Being a photographer, I will talk about everything related to the image (not photographic technicalities that are of little use to the end customer) and I will focus on the truly important aspects for the married couple who have to approach this world for the first time.

Many married couples on the first date tell me: "I'm afraid of not looking good in photography, I don't like myself when I laugh, I look good on this side" (these beliefs turn out to be almost always wrong) etc ...

Have you ever wondered why we have this perception of ourselves in photographs?

The reason is quite simple, people rely on how they turned out in the photographs they took previously, not thinking about whether the photographs were taken by the cousin who deals with something else or by a busy stranger who has found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time!

There are no people who look bad in photography, as long as:

  • Being consistent and appropriate in styling as a whole, by styling I mean: makeup, hair and chosen outfit.

  • Choose the mood suitable for the images you want to create.

  • Choose the right photographer (I'll explain later what I mean by suitable photographer).

Let's analyze the first aspect together.

I tell you right away that STYLING is everything!

The size of the camera, the super expensive 20,000 Euro dress, the super cool accessory of the moment, the top makeup artist and the super cool hair stylist are of no use if they are not contextualized and their work consistent.

The photo session is like a ship, you have to choose the route to follow and everyone has to go in the same direction.

Make-up and hair must be defined before and together in relation to the type of event and the outfit / dress, taking into account the physicality of the bride. The ultimate goal must be to enhance the bride and groom, not the professional or her portfolio.

Relying on a photographer who knows how to guide you makes the difference. This does not mean that the photographer should take the place of the wedding planner (if you have one) but it does mean letting yourself be guided by an image professional who cares about your image as much as you do.

Some simple tips that are easy to remember and implement:

  • Choose clothes that enhance your figure, try to hide the weaknesses and enhance the strengths.

  • Men consider a tailored suit, the cost does not differ much from a packaged one but its VALUE is much higher.

  • Fitting is everything, try on the clothes and make movements, if something does not convince you then that dress will have to be changed, otherwise forget it, you will surely find another one that is right for you.

  • Be open to trying things that you had not taken into consideration, surprises are always around the corner, but be consistent with who you are and want to communicate. (Elegance and class)

  • Do not try to overturn the rules of taste and style (this also applies to the guests) it is a wedding and there are specific rules to follow.

In my career, I had the opportunity and today I add the luck, to deal with many different genres of photography with a single common denominator and goal at the center: beauty, to ensure that the people portrayed were enhanced in the photographs at their best. Beauty and elegance must reign supreme and must be transversal to trends.

This concept, especially in photography, in the last 20-30 years has been a bit forgotten by some photographers, digital has leveled the market a lot (both positively and negatively).

Try to see a passport photo of your grandfather, and the current ones. There is no comparison, the first wins hands down. And do you know why? Because there is style and study of light, commitment and desire to create something lasting over time.

If a photograph does not work or does not convey emotions, it will not transmit them even if it is taken with the latest model of 50 MPixel camera.

I shot for fashion, beauty and weddings magazines both in Italy and abroad, the styling and preparation work is essential for the success of a photo session, it is even more so in marriage because it is one time job and you have to know what you are doing.

Turning on the camera and taking the first photo is the last step of a journey to take together, you have to listen to each other, clarify yourself, define the way to go, the photographs of your wedding will be the testimony of what happened that day, they are like a good wine, will acquire value over time and will be the historical testimony of a new family.

If you liked it, keep up to date on the next articles by leaving your email. The arguments are many but I'm sure you can benefit from them.

A greeting and see you next time.
